Smith Rapids Saddle Trail

,

Trail Options:   Much of this trail follows along the banks of the South Fork of the Flambeau River, which offers open vistas and opportunities to view wildlife. The trail is open May 1 through March , conditions permitting. Call to confirm the spring opening date which is sometimes delayed. The very west end of the saddle trail is temporarily not accessible due to the instability of a bridge and river bank.

Trail Description: The trail was designed for equestrians. The best seasons to ride are in the spring or in September and October when the leaves are changing and the insects are gone. Mosquitoes and flies make bug repellent essential for riding in the summer months. The trail is well marked with reassurance markers. There are several intersections with old wood roads. Follow the markings to keep on trail. The eastern section of the trail is stabilized in wet areas by logs lying side by side. Use caution when crossing wet areas.
