Northwest Wisconsin Trails
Holy Cross Horse Trail
Phillips, WI
Trail Options: This trail has wide twin track trails on rolling terrain with a loop that surrounds a small lake. The southern loop is flatter than the north loop and east loops. The very scenic forested trail has a grass surface and offers moderately hilly and rolling terrain through a variety of timber types. A portion of the trail is mowed periodically. It is used by Grouse hunters beginning in mid-September. This trail is located in the Price County Forest which allows the option of exploring other roads and trails in the surrounding area.
There are no wet areas and horses do not require shoes. The trails are 95% double wide looped with Trail A serving as a north boundary trail and Trail B serving as the south boundary trail. All trails except Trail F are wide enough for horse and cart driving; a key for locked gates is available from the Price County Forestry and Parks Department. From the parking area, continue down the road and around the gate to get to the trail. If you take trail A to the left, it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the north end of trail C, if you are riding leisurely. It takes about another 15 minutes to reach the north end of trail E. A free dispersed camping permit (PDF) is required for overnight horse camping
