In 1935 Richard and Julia Schomberg deeded the property now known as Schomberg Park to Iron County to be used for public park purposes. A total of 160 acres makes up this park which is located about half way between Hurley and Mercer on the west side of Highway 51 in the Town of Oma. Laymans Creek, a class III trout stream runs through the property. The park was very popular in the 1950s through the 1970s as area residents came here for picnics and family gatherings and it provided a rest stop for passing motorists.
